Several quests in Skyrim can cause save bloat, if Unoffiical Patches are not present. These include, but are not restricted to: * Companion radiant quests: Each visit to Whiterun will increase save bloating, if save has uncleared quests. * Thieves Guild radiant jobs: Some of Vex's quests are not cleared and they keep causing a save bloat. * Some of College of Winterhold quests are also uncleared and cause save bloat. * Picking up Nirnroots does not clear them. Just to list few common reasons, why I recommend installing Unofficial Patches, also against save bloating. I used the save game cleaner tool on Skyrim 32 but a lot. Save Game Script Cleaner explains itself.

It was great for when I'd remove a mod but it kept scripts in my save file. The tool could clean them out and restore an otherwise lost save file. Look look for orphaned scripts in the new save (script cleaner).

I'm assuming 64 bit version will still have scripts that stick around if a mod is removed that had scripts running. Look at the new save in Wrye bash, if purple(it will be) you are clean and in sync. Things to try if save wont load fully into game. Rebuild Bashed patch, without immersive creatures. And at the time I'm writing this, neither of them can load savegames from Skyrim Special Edition or that use the new file format introduced in Crash Fixes 10.Disable (untic) bashed patch Then rebuild for new save. SaveTool has quite limited filtering options. Script Scalpel has a difficult UI and is a bit slow.

Upgraded/updated script related mods in an active game and they didn't update cleanly, leaving orphaned scripts. (yes I uninstalled it for a while then reinstalled it a few days ago) so there. Ok so I've just reinstalled SE after playing it with mods a WHILE ago.
